Recycling is good but we can do better

In the UK, households are producing almost 30 million tonnes of waste every year and many would agree that globally we are drowning in waste, generating it at a rate we cannot cope with.
Whilst recycling items is better than putting them in the bin, we need to focus more on generating less in the first place. Keep Britain Tidy have produced some simple steps to follow to help everyone reduce their impact on the planet:
- rehoming the stuff we no longer need
- using stuff again and again
- swapping the way we shop
- having a 'buy less' mindset
Here are a few tips to help you waste less:
- donate items for reuse (either at high street charity shops or at any of the 10 Household Recycling Centres)
- have a look at all the Zero Waste businesses and recycling points we know of on our Zero Waste Map
- Visit a repair cafe to help mend your items
- Read more about Buying Less Stuff
When we buy less, use what we have, repair what breaks, and pass on old items to new homes, we can save our pennies and help protect the planet.
