Shop second hand

Second hand, charity shop, reuse, preloved, new to me there are many words for it and the there are also many benefits to shopping second hand:

  • Save money. One of the primary benefits of second-hand shopping is that it can save you money.
  • Save energy. A lot of energy goes into the production of new items so by shopping second hand we can help reduce the need to produce new ones.
  • Protect the environment and conserve resources. Every time new items are made, raw materials are used – extracting (mining, quarrying and logging) raw materials creates substantial air and water pollution. We can help reduced this by re-using items where possible rather than buying new.
  • Support local businesses and charities. By shopping second hand when you’re seeking new clothing, books, or other goods for your home, often means you are also supporting a local charity at the same time.

You might even come across a one-of-a-kind treasure that you’ll appreciate much more than a new mass-market item.

There are now so many ways and places to shop second hand: on the high street, at one of the Reuse Shops at Aston Clinton or High Wycombe Household Recycling Centres and online (like Vinted, eBay, Freegle).

The Bucks Zero Waste Map has more than 50 listings for charity shops, reuse shops and more.
