Langley Temporary Closure

What is happening?

Langley Household Recycling Centre will close at 4pm on Tuesday 5th March and reopen at 9am on Friday 22nd March to allow for essential maintenance on the concrete floor on the lower level.

The work involves removing all containers from the site, cleaning the concrete surface, reviewing current damage/defects, repairing the surface, a period of curing for the materials, repainting of line markings and then return of the containers.

Where can residents go while Langley is closed?

All residents who currently use Langley recycling centre will be able to use Burnham and/or Beaconsfield recycling centre, including those users from Slough Borough Council. Burnham recycling centre, usually open five days a week will open seven days a week while Langley recycling centre is closed.

When is it happening?

The site will close to the public from 4pm Tuesday 5th March until 9am Friday 22nd March.

This will take 17 days to complete and the works cannot be shortened, so the earliest the site can reopen is the 22nd March.

Why is it needed?

Without these repairs the site could be in breach of its environmental permit. The works will also be an improvement for residents using the site. FCC, the council’s contractor for running the site will also be repainting markings which need updating.

Are there alternatives to closing the site completely?

There were alternatives considered, like completing the works at night, or reducing opening hours to allow for repairs. However, both options would have taken much longer to complete, cost more and led to further disruption to site users and local residents. The current option is the quickest solution with the least disruption.

What is being done to inform people?

We appreciate a temporary closure can be disruptive, especially if visitors are not aware beforehand. We have put in place several measures to try and communicate the changes in advance, such as:

  • Staff to advise all visitors from 20th Feb onwards
  • Temporary signs on site
  • Updated website
  • Updated Google listing
  • Social media posts, including to local community group pages
  • Inform local Town Council & Buckinghamshire Council Councillors

Once the site is closed signs will be displayed outside the gates to advise of the closure, the reopening date and details of Burnham recycling centre as the nearest alternative.
