The waste we produce all starts with what we buy, rather than at the point we want to throw it away. The concept of buying less stuff begins to prioritise other measures above recycling waste, such as preventing it in the first place, and reducing items that could become waste – whilst also saving money.
Here are some ideas of how to dispose of any waste that would otherwise be brought to the site.
Recycling – paper, card, glass, plastic bottles, tubs and trays these all can be put into your recycling bin at home. Any large cardboard can be flattened and placed next to your bin on collection day.
General household waste – there will be branded sacks available at local collection points. You can put out 1 branded sack per household, per week next to your general waste bin (on collection days) and the crews will collect
Batteries – all supermarkets have a battery collection box. Or you can place batteries loose in small clear bags and put the bags on top of any bin on collection day. You can use any type of clear bag. Please remember batteries should not be placed inside your bin.
Clothes & shoes – you can find your nearest textiles bank on the Waste Wizard
Christmas trees – we are working on local collection points of real Christmas tree for after the festive season.
Engine oil – you can take to Aylesbury or Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre
Hardcore/Soil – hire a skip or hippo bag or you take to Aylesbury or Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre
Large electricals/White goods – Most retailers have a take back scheme when you buy a new product or you can take to Aylesbury or Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre
Small electricals – electricals that are smaller than a shoe box (for example a hair dryer) can be placed on top of your recycling bin lid and the crews will take them to be safely recycled. Please note the space on each bin lorry to store electrical is quite small, and once it is full the crews cannot take anymore.
Garden waste – can be placed in your brown Garden waste bin, if you have a subscription, up until the last collection (which will be between 1-12 December) collections will resume from 26 January on your usual collection day. You can get discounts on home compost bins - find out more and start composting today! For more information visit www.recycleforbuckinghamshire.co.uk/composting/
Or you can take to Aylesbury or Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre.
