Why recycle metal?

We use metal packaging everyday, from drinks cans, aerosols and even the foil tray our takeaways come in and it's really good at protecting food and drink. Luckily metal is endlessly recyclable and we can keep using the metal that's already out there to make new products...as long as we recycle it.

Did you know the average UK household uses 27 aerosols, 12m of kitchen foil, 182 foil trays and nearly 1,000 cans each year?

It is important to recycle the metal packaging we produce because it:

SAVES ENERGY - When you recycle aluminium the recycling and new production process saves 95% of the energy used to make the original metal. Which means that you can recycle 20 cans into new products with the same energy used to make one can from scratch!

SAVES RESOURCES - Demand for aluminium and steel outstrips the availability of recycled metal, so we need to mine and process raw materials to make the metal we need. The more we recycle, the less we have to extract from the earth.

SAVES MONEY - Putting metals in the rubbish bin not only costs the council more to dispose of it, but it costs manufacturers more to produce new metals.

The final reason why we should recycle metals it simple...because it's easy! Every home in Buckinghamshire can recycle their drinks cans, aerosols, foil trays, food tins and other every day metal packaging items. If you want to know what you can recycle visit the Waste Wizard
