The Big Recycling Hunt

This year Buckinghamshire is on ‘The Big Recycle Hunt’.

During this years Recycle Week we are asking residents to get involved in ‘The Big Recycle Hunt’ and include those forgotten about items in your recycling collection from home. The ones that can be recycled but are often put in the waste bin.

Getting recycling right

Latest research from Recycle Now reveals that almost 9 out of 10 people now recycle.

However, 55% of households put items in the general rubbish bin that can be recycled; including foil, aerosols, and plastic toiletry (shampoo and conditioner bottles), plastic trays and cleaning and bleach bottles. All of which can be recycled here in Buckinghamshire. This is where we need to ‘Step It Up’. We can all help fight climate change by recycling because recycling in the UK currently saves 18 million tonnes of CO2 every year, which is the same as taking 12 million cars off the road.

Buckinghamshire is a County of recyclers – but there are some simple things that we can all do to make our recycling even better.

Top tips for recycling in Buckinghamshire:

  • Recycle more of these items: Aerosols, plastic bottles from the bathroom and plastic trays
  • Make sure these never go in the recycling bin: nappies, plastic bags & wrappers

And if you’re at all unsure about how to recycle a specific item, remember that the Waste Wizard can show you exactly what needs to go in the recycling bin where you live – just pop in your postcode!
