FCC Environment’s Second Pop-Up Repair Café a Tremendous Success!

The Repair Revolution is taking over Buckinghamshire, FCC Environment’s second pop-up Repair Café was a triumph!Repairer John hard at work mending a much-loved Thomas the Tank Engine toy

On Saturday 12th March skilled volunteer repairers gave their time to help fix a variety of items and share their repair know how. Items brought to the pop-up repair café included a laptop, toaster, hoovers and radios. The most sentimental repairs on the day were a treasured Thomas the Tank Engine toy and a much-loved bracelet. The most interesting item fixed was a pair of skeletal pocket binoculars!

The team worked on 26 items in total – 14 items were repaired, 7 could not be fixed and 5 visitors were given advice on parts.

Jane Barnes Amersham’s Deputy Mayor commented, “It has been fantastic for FCC Environment to bring the pop-up Repair Café’s to Amersham. The events are a great way to bring the community together, extend the ‘life’ of our possessions, save money and reduce waste.”A pair of skeletal pocket binoculars that were mended at the event

Gemma Green Buckinghamshire Waste Awareness & Education Manager added, “It is such a buzz to see people’s reaction when their item is mended, especially those which hold sentimental value. Thank you to the fantastic repair volunteers who gave their time to share their skills and helped to make the second pop-up event so successful!

We hope to host another pop-up Repair Café soon. Once confirmed, details will be posted on the Buckinghamshire Recycles Facebook page

The pop-up Repair Cafés are free to attend. Should visitors wish to donate, FCC Environment are pleased to support donations to Butterfly House, South Bucks Hospice. A local day hospice providing end of life palliative care and support to Buckinghamshire residents and their families.
